Why You Should Track Your Accomplishments at Work - The Muse

Why You Should Track Your Accomplishments at Work - The MuseWhy You Should Track Your Accomplishments at Work On the worst kinds of weeks- when were in a bad mood, when a co-workers being especially loud and distracting, when were dealing with one million different fires- it can feel like weve accomplished nothing. We go home on Friday feeling defeated, like we wasted our time on unimportant issues while our to-do list kept growing. The thing is- and you probably know this- you probably did more than you think. Those eight hours didnt just fly by while you sat twiddling your thumbs. Even if you dont have a new shiny project to show off, the skills youre picking up, the challenges youre facing, and the little efforts youre making every day are ultimately moving you closer and closer to success. This is exactly why we frequently recommend you track your accomplishments on a regular basis, whether its in a journal, on a spreadsheet, or (shameless plug) with this handy worksheet we made fo r youWhy is this quick activity so life-changing? For one, it makes you feel good. If you can landsee on paper everything you did in a given week, you wont get that Im useless feeling in the pit of your stomach. And, even on the weeks that truly are slow, you can look back at this and see that youve actually achieved a lot recently (and if you havent, its a good time to question if the positions still the right fit for you).Needless to say, its motivating- the more accomplishments you rack up, the more youll want to add to the list. Not to mention, having written (or, rather, typed) proof of all the things youve completed in your role only makes it easier for you to state your case for a raise or promotion in your yearly wertzuwachs review. So let me explain how this works. First, download your own copy of the worksheet by clicking File Download as whatever file type youd like. ThenCopy and paste the weekly template onto a new page (by clicking Insert Page break)Fill in the date(s )Jot down projects you finished (as well as how long they took and why theyre important), challenges or problems you solved, great feedback you received from your clients, your boss, and your co-workers, and one thing youre really proud of.Set one small goal for next week to make sure youre sticking to your schedule Repeat weeklyRealistically, this should only take you 10-15 minutes to fill out every week. And, you can do it as a starting-off-the-week-on-a-good-note Monday routine, or as a I-dont-want-to-do-my-work-so-Ill-do-this-instead Friday activity. Either way you cant go wrongThis habit wont just get you ahead- itll keep you from falling behind. If you see youre accomplishing less and less every week, or taking too long on projects, youll know you need to pick up the pace before your boss notices your lack of productivity. Or, if youre struggling to think of accomplishments, especially ones that make you truly proud, its a good sign that its time to evaluate your current role and whether its fulfilling enough for you. This quick exercise only has upsides- so get started today

Understanding How Many Jobs Should I List on My Resume

Understanding How Many Jobs Should I List on My Resume As an example, make certain you include keywords from the work description in your resume. Even in the event you dont create a completely new document for each position you apply for, you need to at least make a bid to tailor your resume to the particular function. The very first thing you ought to do with your resume is to get rid of irrelevant and unnecessary details. Everything on your resume needs to be accomplishments-driven. Irrelevant information will often lead to your resume getting rejected. The remainder of the info can be summarized. So in that event, it is wise to go beyond a page only in case you hold a valuable content. You need to be able to say all that within a page. In some instances you could have a gap of a month or two or more between leaving a job and receiving a new job. Many factors are involved. Likewise, if youre going to put in an application for a job which requires over 20 decades of exp erience, add the amount of experience with the relevancy to the work experience needed. You need a partie who will vouch for you, no matter how both jobs are related. Employers want to understand that youre reachable at any moment, not just when youre at home. Some employers may also ask you to supply a thorough collection of every job which youve worked for the last five or 10 decades. So its a little ironic that all of your expertise could end up working against you once youre searching for work. In many instances, a hiring manager may want to see 20 to 30 decades of history, but a whole lot of hiring managers dont need to see anything beyond a decade. Most hiring managers dont need to find a lengthy collection of jobs which were only held for a brief time period. In the majority of instances, a normal hiring manager is faced with numerous stacks of applications, and he or she has only a little quantity of time to acquire through them. Youd be hard-pressed to locate a hiring manager who makes their decision dependent on the amount of your resume. A thorough collection of every job that youve ever had will just make it harder for employers to track down the appropriate info and could inadvertently put up a red flag for hiring managers. If youre asking for work that doesnt exactly satisfy your objective, youre effectively telling the employer this isnt the most suitable job for you, therefore it really can limit your opportunities. What you ultimately will need to think about is how including the job will appear in conjunction with all your experience, skills and background. Job Descriptions Some job seekers make the error of writing their resumes like a work description. Accomplishments with a couple details are normally not added into the resume and if theyre in the resume, they are combined with the fundamental duties and thus, the accomplishment is tough to discover. Resumes are written depending on the exercise evaluations. Soft skills are the skills that are pertinent to every job. If youve got behauptung general abilities, you will boost your marketability. Instead, review the job posting for the essential skills and be certain to list the considerable skills which you do possess. Communication skills are required for every single job. Job seekers will need to realize that there arent any solid rules concerning what should be placed on a resume. The desire to list every job that youve ever had on a resume is tricky to avoid. Eventually you see that you cant incorporate every detail of every job that youve ever held. Always attempt to modify your work listing based on the relevancy of the present job application.

Tracking Your Project Without Gantt Charts

Tracking Your Project Without Gantt ChartsTracking Your Project Without Gantt ChartsGantt charts are a fantastic and highly useful tool for tracking and coordinating all of the small steps that go into a large project, but they can quickly become overwhelming and messy, especially for people who dont know how to read them. Try to use a Gantt chart to explain your progress to a client or a colleague in another department, and you may have quite the challenge on your hands. This isnt the only challenge Gantt charts present. The data in a Gantt chart typically requires special software for viewing and editing, and printing them is almost always a challenge. Furthermore, sometimes you only want to focus on a small part of a project without being overwhelmed by all of the additional information. While Gantt charts are one great solution, they arent the only one. When you need to look at a smaller sample of the information, or you need to present a simplified version or portion of the info rmation in a situation when a Gantt chart would not be practical, here are five alternatives you could use instead. Task Lists Everyone in the business community should be familiar and comfortable with a basic to-do list. In fact, being organized is one of the top skills for a project manager. A task list takes the to-do list to the next level. With a task list, you can add additional columns to show who will be completing each task, the position of the task, the start and end dates, and the likelihood that the task will be completed on time. You may even add checkboxes for your team members to check as items are completed. Spreadsheets A simplified chart on a spreadsheet is another alternative. You can still list tasks along the left-hand side, and you can still shade bars to show your level of progress and the estimated start and end dates for the tasks. Spreadsheets can be time-consuming to make and time-intensive to update, however, so you will not want to use them as yo ur total project management solution. For a simple one-time report for a client or manager, however, a simplified spreadsheet can visually lay out the project in a way that iseasy to explain and understand. Its also a good option for tracking project progress. Flow Diagrams Flow diagrams, or network diagrams, show the project tasks in the order they need to be completed. Flow diagrams can be as simple or complex as youd like. For example, you may or may not want to list information such as the start and end date of each step, the task identification number, orthe location. Keep in mind that adding too much information can make these charts difficult to read. While many people find flow diagrams easier to read and understand than Gantt charts, making them can be a hassle. Furthermore, they are often inappropriate for large and complex problems. Flow charts are best for presenting simple projects with tasks that naturally progress from one tothe next, but should not be used as a l ong-term tool or for overly complex projects. Kanban Boards Does your project have a large number of steps that dont necessarily have to be done in sequential order? Do you have multiple people working on the same project or are the tasks updated frequently? If so, Kanban may offer the ideal solution for you. (Find out more about how Kanban works in project management.) With a Kanban board, each project task is written on a sticky note and placed in the appropriate column, such as to do, in progress or done. As each task is completed, the corresponding sticky note is moved across the board until all of the notes are in the done column. This organizational system is very easy to understand and modify quickly, but it is not very portable, and you will need to be careful that none of the notes fall and are lost. Status Reports Gantt charts are excellent tools for tracking your projects, not necessarily for communicating it. If all you need to do is communicate your progress wit h a client, your project sponsor or other team members, a status report may be your best option. Plus, many project management software programs will create simplified, easy-to-understand status reports with just a few clicks of the mouse, saving you valuable time and energy. Gantt charts are highly practical for tracking all of the tasks that go into a large project, but they arent always the best for communicating this information with others, particularly those who arent used to reading them. You do have several other alternatives. Try one of these five Gantt chart alternatives yourself. You may be pleasantly surprised by just how much time you can save.

Examples of Potential Workplace Conflicts of Interest

Examples of Potential Workplace Conflicts of InterestExamples of Potential Workplace Conflicts of InterestA conflict of interest arises in the workplace when an employee has competing interests or loyalties that either isor potentially can be, at odds with each other. An example is a manager who was promoted from a coworker job where he worked with his wife. The promotion made him his wifes babo so the company, after discussion with the couple and HR, transferred her to another department. A conflict of interest causes an employee to experience a struggle between diverging interests, points of view, or allegiances. Conflicts of interest are generally forbidden in company codes of conduct and/or employee handbooks. Conflicts of interest can cause an employee to act out of interests that are divergent from those of his or her employer or co-workers. In workplaces, employees want to avoid any behavior or choices that could potentially signal a conflict of interest. They are bad news for the employees reputation, integrity, and trustworthiness in the eyes of management. Conflicts of interest are difficult to describe in a definition, so the following additional examples will illuminate the range of behaviors and actions that can fall within the definition of conflicts of interest. They are as diverse as the work settings in which they occur and involve people interaction, employee actions, and personal benefits taking precedence over what is in the best interests of the employer. These examples should serve as a guide to behaviors that you want to avoid as a person of integrity in your workplace. Examples of Potential Workplace Conflicts of Interest These are examples of situations in which an employee might experience a conflict of interest. They illuminate the true nature of what a conflict of interest really means. A relative or close friend reports to a supervisor who affects their job responsibilities, salary, and promotions.A male manager dates a female e mployee who reports to him or vice versa.A lawyer represents a client in a civil dispute while accepting fees from litigants who hold the opposing point of view.A purchasing agent hires his brother-in-law to provide vending services to the company lunch areas. An employee starts a company that provides similar services to similar clients as those of her full-time employer. This is especially conflict of interest when an employer has had her sign a non-compete agreement. An employee who is a member of a company employee selection gruppe fails to disclose that he is related to a job candidate whom the company team is considering for a position.A manager provides paid consulting services on the weekend to a company customer or supplier. An employee works part-time in the evening for a company that makes a product that competes with the products of his full-time employer.A member of the company board of directors accepts fees and provides advice to a company that is in direct competition with the company on whose board of directors he sits. An HR director decides to investigate a formal charge of sexual harassment, using internal resources that she controls, against a fellow corporate executive whom she has known and worked with professionally for years. This would not constitute a conflict of interest if she hired an external employment law firm to conduct the investigation and recommend disciplinary measures.A purchasing agent accepts trips and gifts from a vendor and then selects the vendors products for purchase by the company. An employee accepts free gifts and free products from a training and development company and then recommends the purchase of these products without comparing them to comparable products from other vendors.A CFO negotiates an agreement in his employers best interests for a stock option plan from which he will directly benefit.A trainer is paid to provide training classes that teach customers how to use the companys software products. He put s up a website that offers his same training on the products as a for-profit enterprise in his spare time. Why would he ever again direct customers needing training to his companys classes? The manager of a absatzwirtschaft department dated a coworker who is also a manager in the same department. They part ways over time, but when he is promoted to the marketing department director role, she found herself reporting to him.The company was forced to change the reporting chain of the department she managed even though the manager and director were no longer dating. The existence of the former relationship created a potential conflict of interest especially in the eyes of coworkers. An employee sets up a personal website on which he sells his employers software products.

9 Tips for Acing Your Phone Interview

9 Tips for Acing Your Phone Interview 9 Tips for Acing Your Phone Interview In a drive to save costs, companies nowadays screen job applicants over the phone before inviting them for an on-site interview. This way, hiring managers get a feel for skills and company fit. If the applicant doesn’t tick the right boxes, they don’t meet with the employer. It is common practice in recruitment for tech positions, especially with bigger corporations. You may think a phone interview is not as serious as a face-to-face interview and decide to wing it. That would be a mistake. Hirers follow strict metrics to maintain the quality of candidates referred for an interview. You need to prepare well beforehand to maximize your chances of an on-site interview, so here are 9 tips to help you pass the screening process for a job in tech. Rehearse Your Answers Ahead of Time Become familiar with typical interview questions and plan answers beforehand. The last thing you want is to stumble over your words and create a bad impression. Create a cheat sheet for reference during the interview, but try not to sound like youre reading answers. Gain confidence by running through a mock interview. Have a friend, preferably with similar expertise, ask questions and give honest feedback. Also, prepare to offer solutions to specific tech problems the interviewer throws at you. It gages your technical skill as well as your problem-solving approach. Although you don’t know exactly what the interviewer will ask for these types of questions, its important to at least be aware they may come up. Build Confidence Know which questions tripped you up and prepare solid answers to avoid crashing during the call. Hirers want someone confident about their strengths and skills. Listen to feedback from your interview practice buddy on how you sound. Pick the Right Location You want to be comfortable without sounding too relaxed. Pick a spot free from distractions and noise. That includes children, spouses, and pets! If it’s impossible to be alone during the interview, make sure others know not to interrupt you. 3 lessons on how to use vulnerability in your career from Brené Brown

3 lessons on how to use vulnerability in your career from Brené Brown 3 lessons on how to use vulnerability in your career from Brené Brown Through years of research on the psychology of shame, social scientist Dr. Brené Brown has found that the key to success in any area of your life - from finding love to leading a team - is to find the “courage to be imperfect” and get vulnerable. Her message has resonated. Brown’s TEDx talk on “The Power of Vulnerability” has reached millions of people and has led to multiple book deals on how we can become whole-hearted humans who are strong enough   “to invest in a relationship that may or may not work out.”On Sunday, Oprah Winfrey released her talk with Brown about her research with long-married couples and Fortune 500 CEOs that led to “Rising Strong:  How the Ability to Reset Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead.”  Here are tips Brown shared on how we can use acts of vulnerability to transcend failure:1) Acknowledge the feeling of discomfort    Too many of us build up narratives about our career journeys that skip over the bumps. I lost a job an d then I got a new one, and I’m not going to acknowledge the feelings of helplessness and loss in between those points. We’re much better at inflicting pain than feeling and acknowledging it, Brown said. Transcending failure starts with learning to become curious about our feelings in a culture where many of us grow up in households where feelings go unaddressed.Acknowledging uncomfortable feelings means looking into what are the actions that “emotionally hook” us and why are these feelings upsetting us, Brown said.We can avoid these feelings, but we can’t run from them. “Bodies keep score and they always win,” Brown said, talking about how feelings that are pushed away will bubble up in our bodies’ physical reactions. We can lose sleep and build resentment and anxiety over feelings we repress.2) Reckon with the feeling and test its assumptionsWhen you are going through hardship at work, your mind is going to build a story of that hardship to make sense of the situat ion. You have to make sure it’s a true story, Brown warns, or else you will be working off of a dangerously toxic narrative.“When we are in a fall, we are neurologically hardwired to make sense of that fall and make sense of our hurt as fast as we can,” Brown said. “If we can come up with a story that makes sense of it, our brain chemically rewards us for that.”Brown gives the hypothetical example of what would happen if Winfrey sighed condescendingly after their live interview ended. Brown’s snapping judgment would say, ‘I knew she never liked me,’ and if this feeling was left unexplored, the next interaction between Winfrey and Brown would suffer. Usually, these limiting narratives that we all feel boil down to “I’m not enough,” Brown said. My co-worker is out to get me. I didn’t deserve that job. My boss betrayed me.If you don’t acknowledge the pain and grief of these scenarios, you are likely to offload that pain onto others as any employee working with mercurial co-workers knows. To counter that, Brown says that we have to think critically about what we know for sure and what are we making up. What more do I need to learn and understand about this situation, the other people in this situation, and myself?Testing these assumptions means recognizing your hurt, in other words, and talking to co-workers about how you’re feeling, and asking them to explain their actions.3) Make leaning into discomfort a practice  Once we learn to acknowledge these feelings of discomfort, we become leaders of our own lives, people who are willing to take responsibility for our emotions and our regrets, instead of feeling like we have no control over how we react. Brown said that every transformational leader she talked with for her book was comfortable with uncomfortable conversations and decisions that could offend, anger, and disappoint other people.“He or she who is willing to be the most uncomfortable can rise strong,” Brown said.

How to Land a Green-Collar Job

How to Land a Green-Collar Job How to Land a Green-Collar Job Show what you know. Summarize your findings on green trends and technologies into a section on your resume or in a one-page addendum. In a recent column, I tackled the question: ” What Exactly Is a Green-Collar Job? ” Now, let’s take a look at what it takes to land a job focused on environmentally sustainable resources, whether or not you already have “green experience.”While the list of established green companies is a short one, many companies are making the transition to sustainable practices, and start-ups are on the rise.So what sectors are growing within the green economy?Renewable energy: These are industries you’ve heard everyone talking about: solar; wind; geothermal; wave (oceans); and low-impact hydro (low-impact dams that do not impede water flow). Biofuels also represent hot opportunities, including corn ethanol, algae, and organic and man-made waste products.Environmental: These are companies aimed at maximizing efficiencies from seasonal climate change, wild life management and natural-resource allocation.Clean tech: The focus here is on creating superior performance from any existing product or service while reducing or eliminating ecological damage and improving the use of natural resources. This is not so much a specific industry but an umbrella category that covers a broad range of products and services that are being redesigned “green.”Smart grid: Our current electrical infrastructure is rapidly deteriorating. New “smart-grid” systems will be far more energy efficient, so any manufacturer or supplier that is key to the infrastructure and is enhancing its systems is a prime target for job seekers. Some of the newer systems are still in the future, but the technology is in progress, and new companies are forming to address these needs.Other green industries: A quick short list: Buildings with energy-efficient construction and heating and cooling systems IT (data centers currently use way to much energy) Water management (drinking and waste). So let’s now look at what actions you can take to land a job in the green economy.First thing’s first: Read up. There is an old saying that goes: “If you read three books on any one topic, you will know more than 90 percent of the world on that topic.” When you highlight that “knowledge” on your resume, you become very green marketable. Take classes and research voraciously. Then, remember to aim. Narrow in on companies that are working with up-and-coming technologies and have a need for someone like you. Learn what they are doing in green activities and tell them about your expertise in this field. Finally, time for more research, but your efforts will be rewarded. Once you understand those technologies, you can put a section on your resume that might be titled: “Knowledge of Green Technologies.”When you’ve soaked up all there is to know, summarize what you’ve learned. Here is an out-of-the-box strategy that will set you apart from all other job seekers. Attach a d ocument to your resume that highlights your green knowledge. It might be titled something like: “Incorporating Green into Your Business to Generate Profitable Green Dollars.” Include four to six short paragraphs with subheadings that focus on what you have learned. It will be a powerful document that will open green doors of opportunity. So what are you waiting for? Start now to build your knowledge base and make that green transition.

Want to Be a Memorable Job Candidate Try These 3 Things

Want to Be a Memorable Job Candidate Try These 3 Things Want to Be a Memorable Job Candidate Try These 3 Things 4In a tight and competitive job market, being a memorable job candidate (in a good way) can help you  stand out against the competition. What can you do to become “top of mind” with employers and recruiters? Try these ideas to be the memorable job candidate  the hiring committee can’t forget: 1. Use personal stories during your interview. Rather than relying solely on facts and figures to answer interview questions, you can add some personality by injecting a bit of storytelling into your responses. While your stories should focus only on professional situations or appropriate personal anecdotes, you can still make them interesting. Think about how you can integrate powerful images, family-friendly humor, and engaging language to “entertain” your interviewers, per se, so that your charisma and communication skills shine through. 2. Reveal your helpfulness and positive attitude. Hiring managers are on the lookout for red flags during the search process and may circular-file any resume that hints at negativity or an inability to be a team player. Take the opposite approach and wow the search team with clear examples of your positive mindset and how you help others. Make a point of sharing credit where it’s due for any joint projects, and strike a tone of enthusiasm when it comes to the industry, the company, and your potential role in it. 3. Be impressive with your research. Hiring decision-makers will remember candidates who go above and beyond in understanding the job for which they are applying. Don’t show up for a phone screen or in-person interview with no homework done- prepare diligently in advance so that you can showcase your knowledge about the company and role. Use the expertise that you gain from your research to ask intelligent questions of the hiring committee during your job interview. It’s not easy to be the one employers remember out of a crowded field of applicants. But by taking a few simple, proactive steps you can radically boost your memorability quotient and find your efforts paying off with a new job. Why Caring Should Be in your Job Description

Why “Caring” Should Be in your Job Description Why “Caring” Should Be in your Job Description Why “Caring” Should Be in your Job Description Hurst, CEO of Imperative and author of The Purpose Economy: How Your Desire for Impact, Personal Growth, and Community is Changing the World(Elevate, 2014) Most job descriptions are oriented around tasks and responsibilities. One requirement that you usually dont see listed is caring. Of course, we all know caring professions like teachers and nurses, but rarely is the expectation to care explicitly stated. In most cases, organizations see caring as outside their definition of work; its seen as part of the candidates soft skills, not central to success, and at times, even inappropriate. Companies often create an environment where employees are not given the discretion or tools to exercise caring. But as research shows, caring is key for employees to generate purpose in their jobs. In turn, a caring workforce is likely to be more loyal and engaged at work. Call it a virtuous circle of purpose. Finding Meaning in the Dirty Work Researchers Amy Wrzesniewski, Jane Dutton, and Gelaye Debebe studied what are known as dirty jobs i.e., jobs that require physically or morally undesirable lines to be crossed. This doesnt just apply to sanitation workers or morticians; it can also apply to roles like call center representatives. People working in dirty jobs are often seen as having a hard time interacting with others, given the stigma of their work. Caring for others means engaging with others, and for many workers who do dirty work, they are expected to be nearly invisible within an organization. The researchers studied the maintenance staff at a hospital, people who clean up after the sick, dying, and recently deceased a dirty job nestled in a caring enterprise. Research confirmed these workers are treated with disrespect; the medical staff devalues their work. The cleaners reported feeling invisible to nurses and doctors. How do these professionals find purpose in their work? Research showed that despite being undermined, many of these cleaning professionals found ways to care for patients and find purpose in their work. They viewed their core job function of cleaning the hospital as elemental to the safety of those being treated. For many, the main driver of purpose was when they went out of their way (and their job description) to care for patients, even at the risk of being reprimanded by their supervisor, responding to requests or taking on small tasks that the patients medical condition prevented them from doing. They talked to lonely patients or changed decorations for those in long-term care. They werent simply performing their job description and clocking out they were taking ownership of their work and finding ways to craft their job to make it meaningful for them. Beyond the Job Description There is value in recognizing workers who bring purpose to their jobs. These employees can help encourage others in your organization to do the same, transforming your company culture into a culture of purpose. Here are three ways to get started: Task crafting redesigns the tasks in a job, which include taking on more or fewer tasks; it can also involve changing the approach or scope of a task. As you observe your workers, adapt their job to make the most of their strengths. Relational crafting involves changing the nature or depth of relationships with co-workers, clients and others in your work environment. This can come from simple changes, such as taking someone to lunch once a week, or trying to have more meetings in person, rather than over email or the phone. As well, give employees a context to get to know each other via social gatherings or volunteerism. Cognitive crafting is about changing the thinking around the tasks that employees do. It connects what employees are doing to a sense of purpose. It is about remembering why they are cleaning the room, conducting an audit, or designing a website. Remind your employees why their tasks are important and encourage them to demonstrate caring in their work. When done well, this process makes work substantially more rewarding for employees, helping you retain workers who may be on the verge of quitting, enabling them to find greater purpose in your company. Follow the Leader, Build the Perfect Leadership Environment

Follow the Leader, Build the Perfect Leadership Environment Follow the Leader, Build the Perfect Leadership Environment Hiring and developing leaders in the workplace has long been a popular topic in recruiting circles. But in recent years, leadership has been on track to become far more than water cooler chat. According to recent Simply Hired data, 23 percent of job descriptions seek leadership and strategic thinking in 2015. This is a significant amount of demand that indicates an interesting trend: what is leadership, and how do we become, hire and encourage leaders in the 21st-century workplace? Defining Leadership in the Workplace The first definition we should identify is how employers define leadership. According to data analysis of Simply Hired job descriptions, common words that employers use to identify leaders are leader, leadership, strategic thinker, goal-oriented, assertive and self-starter. However, these words don̢۪t completely encompass what leadership means to each of us in real life. Since leadership means different things to different people, it is often difficult to define on paper. Instead, we recognize it when we see it in real life and in the stories that we pass down from job to job. Some of these stories are so common that they border on mythical, such as IBM CEO Tom Watson̢۪s message of the power of failure. Other stories are more personal and tied to our own career experiences, such as the stalwart manager who fights for her team behind closed doors. What do these stories have in common? How do they play out in the workplace to build and sustain company culture? And how can you learn from these stories to recruit and train leaders in the workplace to meet the growing demand for leadership in 2015 and beyond? That̢۪s what we intend to explore. Exploring Leadership in the Workplace Over the next few weeks, we̢۪ll be exploring the idea of leadership and how it plays out in the modern workplace for recruiters, human resource managers and employees alike. Our goal is to help energize you to become a better leader, hire better leaders and encourage more leadership in the workplace. To get us started, click on the reply arrow below and share your definition of leadership on Twitter. Fill in the blank: My definition of #leadership is _______________________. - Simply Hired (@SimplyHired) June 1, 2015 Throughout this series, we̢۪ll identify important metrics and characteristics that indicate leadership in the workplace. We̢۪ll also consider how individual HR managers can activate their own leadership skills to become better leaders, recruit and hire better leaders and nurture leaders from within. We invite you to reflect on your understanding of leadership as you read through this series and contribute your thoughts on leadership in the workplace. Because if there̢۪s one thing that̢۪s true about leadership, it̢۪s that it starts on an individual level and grows when individuals take action. U.S. Army Fitness Requirements for Males Ages 42 to 46

U.S. Army Fitness Requirements for Males Ages 42 to 46 U.S. Army Fitness Requirements for Males Ages 42 to 46 The U.S. Army measures physical aptitude through the Army Physical Fitness Test, or APFT, which requires soldiers to complete three events: two minutes of push-ups, two minutes of sit-ups, and a two-mile run. Scoring Scoring on the APFT is based on age category, gender, number of repetitions performed of the push-up and sit-up, and runtime. The score for each event ranges from 0 to 100 points. Soldiers need to score at least a 60 to pass the test. APFT standards may be tougher for some special purpose units. Scores of 270 or above on the APFT- with a minimum score of 90 in each event- earn soldiers the Physical Fitness badge. However, this test has been widely criticized for not adequately measuring strength and endurance. For this reason, in 2011 the Army piloted the Army Physical Readiness Test (APRT) on more than 10,000 soldiers but eventually decided to stick with the APFT test.
